Permanent Collection

The Schumacher Gallery's Permanent Collections offer a wonderfully diverse selection of more than 2500 works for study and enjoyment. These collections encompass 2000 years of cultural history. Since the Gallery's inception in 1964, hundreds of donors have provided objects of art, funds, and services to create this important cultural legacy.

Masterworks by Ohio Artists (1856-2018)

The gallery is closed October 10-13 for midterm break and November 27-December 1 for Thanksgiving.

The Schumacher Gallery is the proud steward of celebrating art and artists from Ohio. The gallery’s vast collection of art from Ohio is one of the few on permanent display in the state. Through the help of Keny Galleries, we are highlighting seventy-five masterworks from The Schumacher Gallery’s permanent collection encompassing Realism, Impressionism, Modernism, Folk Art, and Contemporary eras.

The Perfect Shot: Walter Iooss Jr. and the Art of Sports Photography 

January 20 - April 5, 2025

Please note: he Perfect Shot: Walter Iooss Jr. and the Art of Sports Photography 

This exhibition takes visitors through some of the most inspiring moments in sports history and highlights the craft and talent of Walter Iooss Jr., an American photographer who transformed iconic moments into works of art. The exhibit features professional portraits, action shots, and original “Sports Illustrated” magazine covers that feature athletes as diverse as Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, and many more.

Reception: Thursday, January 23, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

This exhibit features narratives and re-creations of outfits based on experiences answering this frequently asked question of survivors. This event occurs yearly during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Please join us to unlearn one of our culture's most prevalent rape myths

The Schumacher Gallery app is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store and the Google Play App Store.

This mobile docent app will enhance your overall experience of the gallery and provide an insider’s look of the artwork. Within each of the galleries, this app will highlight multiple pieces providing audio tours, detailed images, artist biographies, and behind-the-scene info. Plus, you can save your favorite artwork in your own collection for quick reference.

Visitor Information

Hours

The Schumacher Gallery will be open Monday - Friday, 12 - 4 pm and Saturday, 1 - 4:30 pm during the academic year. We are closed during the summer and on university holidays.

Directions and parking

The Gallery is located on the fourth floor of The Blackmore Library at Capital University.

Parking is available on the Main Street Plaza parking at Pleasant Ridge and Mound Street - one block south of Main - and on Main St. until 4 pm, or on any of the surrounding side streets.
